Iranian FM Warns Israel’s Actions Threaten Regional Stability

(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that Israel’s activities are “destabilizing” the region and called for Tel Aviv to be held accountable, including through sanctions for violations committed in various countries, particularly in Palestine.

His comments were made during a forum conducted by a news agency in Doha, Qatar, held from Feb. 7 to 9 under the theme “The Palestinian Cause and the Regional Balance of Power in the Context of an Emerging Multipolar World.”

Araghchi described the Palestinian issue as “the defining question of justice in West Asia and beyond. It is the strategic and moral compass of our region. It is a test of whether international law has meaning.” He added that the ongoing attacks on Palestinians reflect a “moral failure” by all who witness and accept Israel’s violations.

He said: “What we are witnessing in Gaza is not merely war; it is not a conflict between equal parties… It is the deliberate destruction of civilian life on a massive scale. It is genocide.”

Araghchi warned that if Gaza is “settled through destruction and forced displacement” and such an approach becomes a precedent, the West Bank could be next, with annexation becoming official policy.

The Iranian minister emphasized that “Israel's expansionist project has had a direct and destabilizing impact on the security of all countries in the region” and urged the international community to hold Israel accountable, impose sanctions, end the “Israeli occupation,” and work toward establishing a Palestinian state.

He also highlighted the role of Arab and Islamic countries in preventing “the region from being reshaped by force.”
